General surgery is surgery performed by a general surgeon who focuses mainly on abdominal organs, eg intestine including esophagus, stomach, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and rectum and often the thyroid gland, breast surgery and hernias.

General Surgery Types

Appendectomy - An appendectomy is surgery to remove the appendix. Appendicitis is swelling (inflammation) of the appendix. The appendix is a small, finger-shaped organ that comes out from the first part of the large intestine. It is removed when it becomes swollen (inflamed) or infected.

Hemorrhoidectomy - Hemorrhoidectomy is surgery to remove hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are painful, swollen veins in the lower portion of the rectum or anus.


Orthopedic surgery is surgery performed by a medical specialist, such as an orthopedist or orthopedic surgeon, trained to deal with problems that develop in the bones, joints, and ligaments of the human body. Orthopedic surgery corrects problems that arise in the skeleton and its attachments, the ligaments and tendons. It may also deal with some problems of the nervous system, such as those that arise from injury of the spine. These problems can occur at birth, through injury, or as the result of aging. They may be acute, as in injury, or chronic, as in many aging-related problems.

Total Knee Replacement Surgery - A total knee replacement is a surgical procedure whereby the diseased knee joint is replaced with artificial material.

Microdisectomy - Microdiscectomy is a spinal surgical procedure performed to remova a small portion of the bone over the nerve root and/or disc material from under the nerve root to relieve neural impingement and provide more room for the nerve to heal.


Cardiovascular surgery is a surgery performed by a cardiothoracic surgeon which involves the surgical treatment of diseases and disorders of the heart and blood vessels.

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) - Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a type of surgery that improves blood flow to the heart. Surgeons use CABG to treat people who have severe coronary heart disease (CHD).

Heart Valve Surgery - Heart valve surgery is used to repair or replace diseased heart valves.



Plastic surgery has two branches, cosmetic surgery and reconstructive plastic surgery. Cosmetic surgery aims to improve the aesthetic appearance of a person, while plastic surgery may include this, or just the reconstruction

Liposuction - Liposuction, also called lipoplasty, liposculpture suction lipectomy, or lipo, is a type of cosmetic surgery which breaks up and "sucks" fat from various possible parts of the body, most commonly the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, chin, upper and backs of the arms, calves, and back.

Abdominoplasty - Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a surgical procedure used to make the abdomen more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall.
